New Look

Today was the much anticipated day for Gib and his eye surgery. He's been on all our minds all day. He did just fine and has already noticed a huge improvement with his sight. Of course the doctor can only do one eye at a time and he is anxious to do the other in June. He visited with us later in the day to show us his new "style" and tell us all about his doctor visit. I told Gib he looks 10 years younger with all that hair and he told me when he woke up from his surgery he had grown hair!! I think Gib likes his new look how about you? Derek I think he's going to have some fun with this gift for some time don't ya think.
He's showing us here it's really not his hair. Haha
Dave still doesn't recognize his father!

83rd Celebration

Yesterday we celebrated Gib's 83rd birthday. Dave & I walked over to the Allen's to join up with Amy and Jerrad and their beautiful girls and Charlotte and Sherry. Dan and Twila joined us after their work day and Dylan also joined in after his work day. Charlotte had make wonderful chicken pie and salad was also served. Gramps birthday cake was gingerbread with cream. McKenzie thought she would help her great grandfather blow out the candles.
I think a scratch off tickets are a given for gramps to receive.
McKenzie with another story to tell.
Our walk back over to our house after the gathering.

A rainy day

We've had some rainy weather here for the past two days so Dave thought it would be an excellent time to burn some of the brush we've been stock piling up near the barn. So off we went to get this job accomplished. We are extending our garden this year. The area in which we cleared will be for pumpkins and squash as their vines really get enormous and have always taken over our existing garden. Dave will use the tractor and get the ground dug up and turned over. This is where our first pig pen use to be many years ago so I expect the new crop will grow excellent! I did take time today to snap a few pictures around the yard in the rain.
This is not nearly as big as yesterdays fire
Taking a break for some lunch
Our daily woodpecker visit
and our daily visit from the turkey
Apple tree beginning to blossom
.
This is our first year for garlic and
we are looking forward to this

Update on Elkey

We had noticed that Elkey the pony just wasn't looking herself lately. Two days later are gut feeling was right. She had passed on. Most everyone living on this side of Swett's Pond is very familiar with this pony. Some of the neighbors would stop into her yard and give her a special treat. One day I actually saw Elkey standing with two baby fawn. That was the day I wished I had my camera with me. It was always nice to be able to look over while driving by and think "there's Elkey". It leaves an empty feeling of driving by and not seeing her either napping in the sun or grazing on the green grass or just taking an afternoon stroll to wherever she pleases. In 2007 - Elkey's owner told us she was 37 years old. She will truly be missed by many people.

New pup on the block

Just wanted to post a picture of Lee's new pup. I was outside in the sweet pea beds and behind me approached Lee with his new pup Atticus. So cute. We visited for quite awhile and I told Lee he must go inside to show Dave. So off they went inside. Before they entered the steps to enter the house I told lee to pick up Atticus so my cat wouldn't hurt him!!! My cat is bigger than this puppy. We kept Carly outside and Atticus had the run of the house temporarily until he needed to lay down and rest. He is too cute.

Bluebirds

I've been watching the Bluebirds trying to figure out which house to claim as their home. Dave had built me several houses and he posted them on the trees next to open areas which Bluebirds prefer. These houses have to be a certain dimension and the opening hole is suppose to be a certain dimension as well. We were surprised that the Bluebirds actually came to our homemade houses. I guess they are ok. It's been fun watching them. I still haven't determined if they have chosen a home yet. Time will tell.
