Let's see - Daniel had watched the Discovery channel one day and got this bright idea to make his own potatoe launcher. That's right a potatoe launcher. He figured if that guy on TV can make one and looks that easy to put together I think I'll try it. So off to the hardware store he goes bright and early to purchase all of the supplies needed and spent part of the day assembling this rig. So of course he had to come to Orrington to show and tell. I was not at home at the time of his arrival so there was a note left on the table from his father saying "Gone over back with Daniel's new toy - be right back". So the first thought I had was what could it be now- a new wheeler or truck or something that had tires and an engine in it.
They arrived back in the same vehicle he arrived in so I just couldn't figure out what it could possibly be. So then Daniel says, "ma come look at my new toy" - He leads me to the back of his truck and there it was his new toy. I said, "What is that?" He chuckles and says it's a potatoe launcher. But the funniest part is when I looked at his face a noticed a white residue on his eyelashes and eyebrows - so of course I asked what that was and everyone started laughing and explained it was potatoe!! I couldn't believe it - I guess the launcher had back fired.
So gram was here one afternoon and he insisted she try it. Daniel had gained much more experience operating this rig and assured her it was safe. Well there was a little mishap - not a serious one just a little burn mark on her finger - Daniel felt badly. I told Daniel it was a good thing it didn't backfire and blow potatoe all over her face!!!
So Daniel is looking forward to shooting this potatoe launcher at toddy pond in the open waters.
FYI - small squash work well too :) Silly huh?

Fall Colors in Orrington, ME

This is Peach and her brother Beckett. They came to
visit with their owner who works for Central Maine Power.
They travel a lot to meet with the land owners who abut
the new power lines in November.
This goose has been living @ my friends home with
its companion. She called me to come take a look at them.
They were beautiful. They have been there most of the summer.
They also come right up to her backyard and these geese are
hand fed. Couldn't resist this shot.
This big guy came out for a horse trot with 16 of his horse friends. He was beautiful.
Notice his eyes -

Easter Weekend

It was a Wonderful Easter weekend - David - Dylan - Daniel/Twila and myself headed to Toddy Pond for our annual spring clean-up. It was early for us this year. The weather was perfect. So we packed up an Easter lunch and early dinner and of course some Easter candies and off we went. In between the raking sessions Dan and Dylan would take off in the truck and head to the "secret" fishing hole. They of course came back with some trout and some pretty wet feet. While they were gone Twila and I decided we'd do some hula-hooping - we also watched and listened to the loon which is always a peaceful sound.
We got a lot accomplished and it looks so much better.
